BSF unearths fake currency racket in South Bengal

Kolkata, Aug 1 (UNI) In a special drive against organized trafficking of arms, ammunition and fake currency, BSF South Bengal Frontier sleuths have unearthed a major racket in North 24 Parganas district.

BSF sources here today said acting on a tip off, BSF personnel in South Bengal Frontier raided a house at Panitart near Basithat in the district last night and apprehended one Rabiul Islam Gazi.

One country-made revolver, fake currency worth Rs 58,800, one stolen motorcycle and a mobile phone were recovered from him.

Following his interrogation, one of his close associates called Umal Ali Gazi was also arrested from a nearby village and another stolen motorcycle was recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, further raids were being conducted to unearth the network involved in gun running rackets on both sides of the Indo-Bangladesh borders running through the district, the sources said.
