Varanasi, Aug 1 (UNI) At least 50 starvation deaths have taken place across Uttar Pradesh during the current Mulayam Singh Yadav regime, opposition BJP alleged here today.

''As many as 50 starvation deaths, 30 of them in eastern district of Kushinagar, have taken place in UP during the Samajawadi Party regime led by Mr Yadav,'' former UP minister and state BJP vice president Surya Pratap Shahi told newspersons this evening.

The interests of the below poverty line (BPL) sections have been consistently sidelined by the SP government resulting in the fatal phenomenon, which was completely absent during the BJP government in UP, he claimed.

Further alleging that food scam worth Rs 10,000 crore had taken place in UP under the Mulayam regime, Mr Shahi said not only had the opposition demand for a CBI probe into the matter been rejected by the government, but the ongoing CBCID probe was also abandoned.

Mr Shahi said the BJP will organise 10,000 public meetings across UP starting from August 11 to highlight the state government failures.

''Meetings will be organised in every assembly segment of UP alongwith membership drive to raise by 12 lakh, the actual rank and file of BJP in the state, which presently stood at 28 lakh.'' UNI ARS VS ARB KN2043
