Mumbai, July 31 (UNI) A local court here today slapped a fine of Rs 150,000 on a youth who was held guilty of dishonouring his promise of marrying a girl.

In case the youth fails to pay up the fine, he will have to suffer an year's rigorous imprisonment.

Additional sessions judge K U Chandiwal held Abbas Kadar (24) guilty of cheating the girl and slapped the fine.

According to the prosecution case, the youth, on the promise of marrying her, had developed intimate relationships with a 19-year old girl who resided in the same locality at Goregaon here.

The relationship continued for two years but the youth, later, refused to marry the girl.

Following this, the girl lodged a complaint with the police and a case was registered in 2003.

During the course of their relationship, the girl became pregnant and was delivered of a child. The paternity of the child was established through a DNA test but the youth was acquitted of rape charges.
