Sessions court fines UP Govt for not appearance of public prosecutor

New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) A Delhi court today fined the Uttar Pradesh Government after the special prosecutor in the case related to the alleged massacre of Muslims by PAC men during curfew in Hashimpura in Meerut on May 22, 1987 failed to appear at the hearing.

Additional sessions Judge N P Kaushik imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on the UP Government as the special prosecutor S. Adhlakha failed to appear during the hearing.

The Judge fixed the next date of hearing at August 8.

On July 22, additional Sessions Judge N. P. Kaushik, had asked Special Public Prosecutor S. Adhlakha and Additional SP of CB-CID, Meerut to produce the rifles allegedly used by the PAC jawans in the killing in court on July 31, the next date of hearing.

Trial in the case began on July 15. Charges of murder, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, abduction, unlawful confinement, assault and unlawful compulsory labour have been filed against PAC men charged with killing Muslims during curfew in Meerut on May 22, 1987.

The case was transferred to Delhi from Ghaziabad on the orders of the Supreme Court in 2002.
