Sania slips in WTA rankings, Bopanna top ranked Indian in ATP list
New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) Sania Mirza's inconsistent singles form has seen her drop further two places to 44th in the WTA rankings while Rohan Bopanna regained his status as the top ranked Indian in the men's chart from Harsh Mankad by rising eight places to 290th in the latest ATP rankings issued today.
Sania, who crashed out in the first round of the Stanford Classic recently, saw her points tally go down to 477.50 in the singles rankings but the Indian teen remained static at a career high 31st in the doubles list with 951 points.
In the ATP list, Mankad (125), who scaled a whopping 109 places to displace Bopanna (127) as the top ranked Indian, slipped eight places in the latest list to be 295th this week.
Karan Rastogi was static at the 344th spot with 100 points while both Prakash Amritraj and Sanam Singh experienced a fall. Prakash slid seven places to 357th with 95 points and Sanam was down four spots to 772 with 19 points.
Swiss Roger Federer continued to reign supreme with 7260 points to his credit while his clay court nemesis Rafael Nadal (4930) of Spain remained a distant second. Argentine David Nalbandian was third with 3185 points.
Meanwhile, in the WTA list, which continues to be led by Wimbledon Champion Amelie Mauresmo (2786) of France, Shikha Uberoi is the next Indian after Sania, down three places to 174 this week with 155 points followed by Ankita Bhambri (56.25) at 353.
Isha Lakhani (45.50) is 386th while veteran Rushmi Chakravarthi (36.25) continued her fall in the rankings and lay 438th this week.
At the top of the table, Mauresmo's closest rival now is Belgian Kim Clijsters (3377), who has swapped places with compatriot Justine Henin-Hardenne (3093) to be on the second spot.
