Nepal govt gives nod to Queen's rule
Kathmandu, July 31 (UNI) The Nepal government has announced British like heir succession in the tiny Himalayan Kingdom allowing the first child of the king to be the monarch.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers today decided to amend the law cancelling the earlier law which allows only a male heir to succeed to the throne. The historical amendment of law provides the provision of first born heir, irrespective of sex, to succeed to the throne .
In the history of Shah dynasty, which has been ruling Nepal for more than 250 years, none first born female child of Monarch has succeeded to the throne.
The cabinet meeting further formed a special committee chaired by the Prime Minister to decide the accession to the throne.
Similarly, the government also decided to cut the expense of the Royal Palace by giving allowance to only select royal family members.
Only the king, queen, crown prince, crown princess and queen mother will get allowances, which was earlier available to most of the Royal family.
