NEC to invest 70 crore on health sector in NE region
Aizawl, July 31 (UNI) The North Eastern Council (NEC) has planned to invest Rs 70 crores in various medical and health projects to improve health services in the region.
A sum of Rs 45 crores would be given to the health institutes administered by NEC such as Regional Institute of Medical Science in Imphal, Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing in Mizoram and Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health in Asom.
More than Rs 17 crore had been already given to these health institutes, official souces here said.
About Rs 720 lakh has been earmarked for additional facilities in three medical colleges of Asom including to establish T B and respiratory centres and construction of paying cabins.
Support of Rs 200 lakh have also been provided to other allied departments of the medical stream.
In Tripura, Dr B Barua Cancer Insitutie, Regional Diabetes Centre, Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology would get 100 lakhs, while in Manipur, 90 lakhs has been alloted seperately for the infrastructure support of J N hospital.
In Nagaland, the NEC has allotted Rs 112 lakh for the development of paramedical institute at Kohima and one time support to referral hospital at Dimapur, the sources added.
