National Games should not be postponed further: AGP
Guwahati, July 31 (UNI) Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MP Sarbananda Sonowal today demanded that the National Games to be held here in February next year should not be postponed under any circumstances.
Mr Sonowal said, ''The games have already seen two postponements and should not be delayed further.'' The Indian Olympic Association had announced on Saturday that the Games would be held from February 9 next year, after it saw two postponements from November, 2005, and October this year.
The AGP MP criticised the Congress government for failing to host the Games on time. ''The Congress has brought disgrace to the state by failing to host the Games on time. We must now ensure that we can set an Andhra-like example by successfully hosting the event,'' he added.
Mr Sonowal said the Games should not be cancelled at any cost as the state was gearing up for them.
He said, ''Asom should not be deprived of the opportunity of hosting the National Games.'' UNI SG BA PM DS1601
