MoFPI consults Planning Commission for Integrated Food Zones
New Delhi, Jul 31 (UNI) A new scheme - Integrated Food Zones / Mega Food Park aimed at providing integrated solutions with comprehensive and quality infrastructural facilities alongwith appropriate linkages is being developed in consultation with the Planning Commission, minister of state for food processing industries Subodh Kant Sahai informed the Rajya Sabha today.
Replying to a question, he made it clear that the Government does not set up Food Processing Industries (FPI) on its own and the approval of the Ministry is also not required for starting new FPI units.
On establishment of Food Parks in Andhra Pradesh, Mr Sahai said his Ministry has sanctioned a food park at Kuppam, District Chittoor and two more proposals have been received for financial assistance for setting up of Food Parks in the State.
Regarding setting up of regional packing centres in Kerala, the Minister said a proposal has been received from Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Government of Kerala for financial assistance for setting up of Regional Food Processing cum Packing Centres at Ernakula, Pathanmithitta and Malappuram in Kerala.
The proposal has been scrutinised and required clarificiation and supporting information have been called for.
