LS adjourned after derogatory remarks by a member
New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) The Lok Sabha, which witnessed two successive adjournments in the evening after a member made derogatory remarks relating to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi raising strong protests from BJP members, resumed normal functioning only after Deputy Speaker Charnjit Singh Atwal made a fervent plea that it was solemn duty of members to maintain decorum of the House.
The hue and cry was sparked off on a unsavoury remark made by Mr Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM) while the house was debating the Bill relating to the Office of Profit in the case of Members of Parliament.
This provoked an angry outburst from members from the NDA, who while raising slogans against Mr Owaisi trooped to the well of the House.
At this juncture, the House was adjourned twice by the Deputy Speaker, but finally re-assembled at 1915 hours.
Mr Atwal said not only the country but the entire world was watching the proceedings of the House and thus it was essential to behave in a responsible manner.
He enjoined upon the members to have respect for each other and exercise patience.
The Chair said Mr Owaisi's remarks were uncalled for and ordered expunction of both his remarks and the slogans raised by the Opposition members.
The House headed to the advice of the Speaker, who then asked Mr Manvendra Singh (BJP) to resume the debate, who was the last speaker.
