Lok Adalat disposes 44 cases in Arunachal

Itanagar, Jul 31: A three-day Lok Adalat, organised by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Upper Subansiri district of Arunahal Pradesh from July 26 to 28 has disposed of 44 cases, which remained pending since long.

Out of these 34 were criminal cases and 9 motor accident claims besides one family dispute, informed official sources here today.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the Lok Adalat, DLSA Chairman Onit Panyang, who is also the deputy commissioner (DC), highlighted the fundamental principles philosophy of the Legal Services Authority in general and the paramount idea behind the Lok Adalat.

He urged the members of litigant parties to avail of the opportunities of Lok Adalats which is one of the most efficient Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism in the country in the context of mounting pendency of cases in various courts.

''It is a way by which one gets easy, cheap and expeditious justice at his door step,'' the DC commented adding, Lok Adalat was a people's court and parties to such court must come with a clear and clean mind to settle their disputes by voluntary and mutual efforts. The other members who attended the Lok Adalats were Suprintendent of Police of the district Mr S.N. Mosobi, circle officer Dr. D K Chutia, Advocates Mr Tadu Bayor, Mr. Nerto Riba and Mr. Talum Babla among others, sources informed. The next sitting of the Lok Adalat of the district would be conducted in the last week of September, sources added.
