Jeev soars to 141, Atwal slips 11 rungs in golf rankings
New Delhi, Jul 31 (UNI) Arjun Atwal could not arrest his slide down the ladder even though his compatriots remained upward mobile with Jeev Milkha Singh cementing his place as the highest ranked Indian with a jump of five notches in the latest Official World Golf Rankings issued today.
Jeev, who finished tied eighth in the 120 million yen Omaezaki Golf Tournament this weekend, is placed 141st and he boasts of 1.13 average points.
The UBS Asian Tour Order of Merit leader thus steers clear of his nearest rival Jyoti Randhawa (1.03), who also moved up four places, thanks to his tied 22nd finish in the Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe yesterday.
Shiv Kapur (.92), who shone in Germany and joined Randhawa at tied 22nd place after some morale-boosting show, also improved his positions by nine rungs to finish 175th in the rankings. The tournament also saw the youngster break into the top 100 of the European Tour Order of Merit.
Arjun Atwal (.84) slipped 11 rungs to 194th after his tied 48th finish in the 4,800,000 dollar Milwaukee Open. Atwal had a brilliant start in the tournament but his show gradually fizzled out and a poor third round put paid to his hopes of a better finish.
At the top of the table, Tiger Woods has now held the World Number One position for a total of 402 weeks and his lead over Phil Mickelson 8.19 average points.
Robert Karlsson, following his triumph at the Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe at Gut Kaden in Hamburg -- his second European Tour win in two months -- saw him move to World Number 50, a jump of 38 places on the week.
