Govt allows export sugar stocks taken out mills before June 22

New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) The government has allowed the export of sugar stock which was taken out of sugar mills before June 23, a noticifation was issued allowing import of refined sugar at zero duty without quantitative restrictions (QRs), an official release said here today.

The export of white sugar has been banned till March 31, 2007 to augument availability of sugar in the country.

The latest notification, the sugar industry sources said, would provide a handle to mills to manupulate and manage the export of sugar in the international market ruling high now. The millers have been striving hard to export sugar now as global prices are all time high.

According to official assessment the production of sugar during the sugar year 2004-05( October-September) is pegged at 130 lakh tonnes in the country.
