Don't divide society on reservation issue, Athavale tells Shalinitai
Mumbai, July 31 (UNI) Republican Party of India (A) president Ramdas Athavale today said that NCP MLA Shalinitai Patil should not create division in the society on the caste-based reservation issue.
Talking to reporters here today, Mr Athavale urged Ms Patil to join hands with his party's demand for reservation for the Maratha community too.
He said he was of the opinion that 20 per cent reservation should be given to economically backward class people from the upper castes.
Speaking about the delimitation of the constituencies, he said he would urge the President to increase the number of reserved seats for scheudled castes in assembly from the proposed 29 to 48 and from five to eight in Lok Sabha constituencies.
