Custody of child: NIMHANS directed to file report

Bangalore, July 31 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in the city to file a report about the choice of a nine-year-old boy between his biological parents and foster parents in a dispute claiming his custody.

Mr Justices R Gururajan and Adi gave the direction on a habeas corpus petition, filed by his biological mother Sundari. The Bench also asked NIMHANS to report what was best for the future of the child.

NIMHANS Superintendent Dr Subha Srinivasan, who was present at the court, took the instructions.

Sundari had submitted that she had lost her child in a city clinic and after an extensive search found him in the custody of the respondent, Usha and her husband.

Hearing on the petition was adjourned to August eight.
