Amarinder accuses Akalis of looting the state

Sunam, Sangrur, July 31 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today alleged that except for looting the public exchequer, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) never been sincere towards the progress and development of the state.

Addressing a public meeting on the occasion of the 167th martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh here he said that Akalis were neck deep in corruption and exploited the religious sentiments of the people in the name of religion just to woo the voters. He appealed to the people of Punjab not to be misled by the false and malicious propaganda of the Badal's.

He claimed that the Congress would win the next assembly elections in the state on the basis of the performance of his government that had ansured all round development and concentrated on solving the problems of the public. The government took bold initiatives to revive the sagging economy that we inherited from the Akalis, introduced diversification in agriculture and garnered investment worth Rs 73,000 crore in 218 mega projects that would generate employment for 16 lakh persons, he added.

Capt Singh that his government had also passed a legislation to protect the river waters thereby saving 16 lakh farming families and nine lakh acres of land in the southern districts of Mansa, Moga, Sangrur, Bathinda, Muktsar and Feorzepur which otherwise would have turned barren.

Referring to the debate on the overall development and progress in the state during the two-day special session of the Vidhan Sabha on September 14 and 15, Capt Singh said his party would expose the Akalis and Mr Prakash Singh Badal on the floor of the house.

Earlier Capt Singh laid the foundation stone of the Rs 1.14 crore modern bus stand here and also inaugurated the Bhagwan Dass Arora Marg. He also laid the foundation stone of 100 per cent drinking water and sewerage scheme at a cost of Rs 5.65 crore.

On the occasion 500 workers of the SAD joined the Ccongress in the presence of the Chief Minister and Punjab Congress President Shamsher Singh Dullo.
