9-member gang arrested, valuables worth Rs 1.8 lakh recovered

Bangalore, July 31 (UNI) Police have arrested a nine-member gang of dacoits and seized gold jewellery and other articles worth Rs 1.84 lakh.

Police said four members of the gang, armed with lethal weapons, were arrested recently when they were trying to commit dacoity.

On interrogation, the culprits revealed that they had robbed a Military officer and his wife of jewellery worth Rs one lakh when they were travelling by their car near Austin town in the city on June one. The gang was also involved in several chain snatching cases.

They also confessed that one of the arrested, Sunil, who had been released from jail eight months after serving sentence in a theft case, had been planning to murder one Suresh alias Infant of the rival gang.

Police said based on the information provided by the arrested, the remaining members of the gang were arrested.

Lethal weapons and eight mobile phones were also recovered from the culprits.
