Yuvraj wants to improve his Test record
Bangalore, July 30 (UNI) Team India ace batsman Yuvraj Singh wants to improve his Test record besides performing well in One-Dayers.
The 24-year old left hander, satisfied with his performance in the ODIs last season, said that " I am very disappointed that I ended with not getting many runs in the test matches in the recent tour of West Indies. Petty upset, I want to improve my Test record also." "Though next test series in October-September, I want to utilise the ODIs I am playing to improve my performance in the test matches", he added.
About forthcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka, in which South Africa is the third team, Yuvraj said that "obviously in Sri Lanka I was performing well. But last time when we visited we lost the series.
this time we don't want to make the same mistake." "We want to have a good plan and win. We are working on it", he added.
In a chat with newsmen, who met him after launch of Reebok's latest collection at RbK showroom in the city last evening, Yuvraj said that it is going to be a hard six months before World Cup 2007 and "I want to improve upon in maintaining consistency".
When asked how he felt being awarded 'Man of the Series' three times, he said that " it was actually a good season but it ended with not getting many runs in Test matches. That is why I want to concentrate more on test matches also." For Yuvraj the 2005-06 season proved to be a watershed for Yuvraj, with 1161 runs at 58 in the one-dayers, as he transformed himself into one of the keystones in India's batting line-up. He was soon preferred over VVS Laxman in Tests when India went in with five batsmen, but a lean series in the West Indies meant that he was still struggling to match potential with performance.
Replying to a question whether he feels playing too much cricket, Yuvraj said that "at young age we don't feel anything, it is upto the Board to decide how much we have to play." Yuvraj who made debut in Test matches in 2003 against New Zealand has to his credit 830 runs from 19 matches. His ODI record reads 154 matches 4232 runs after making a debut in 2000 against Kenya.
