Water enters many areas as rivers swell

Jamshedpur, Jul 30 (UNI) With the opening of sluice gates of Chandil and Sitarampur dams, the water levels of Kharkai and Subernarekha rivers rose alarmingly today and waterlogged many low-lying areas with the threat of flood looming large.

The East Singhbhum district administration has sounded an alert signal and asked the residents of the catchment areas, along side the rivers to vacate their houses, and take shelter in safer areas.

Water gushed in many houses in Bagbera, Shastinagar, Roop Nagar, Mango areas and more than hundred families were affected due to the flash flood.

Deputy Commissioner N M Kulkarni and Jamshedpur(West) MLA Saryu Rai visited the affected areas and held an emergency meeting to cope with the situation.

Waterlogging has been reported in the Tata Steel Zoological garden and Jubilee park here, posing a threat to the lives of the animals. The rain even water logged residential areas in Adarshnagar.

Meanwhile, normal life has been disrupted due to incessant rains for the last 48 hours. After a brief gap in the day rains started once again in the evening.

The Met office recorded 80 mm rain in the last twenty four hours.
