UP STF unearths on-line shopping fraud; one arrested

Lucknow, July 30 (UNI) Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police today unearthed a syndicate involved in an internet fraud through on-line shopping.

The STF has arrested Amit Kumar Singh, a local resident, alleged to be involved in the crime by collecting more than Rs 12 lakh through on-line shopping and not supplying the products even after receiving the money from consumers.

SSP S K Bhagat said here that the STF started the probe after a complaint was lodged by e-Bay India Pvt Limited Mumbai on Thursday last alleging that one Pradeep Kumar Singh was not supplying the products to their consumers even after receiving the money.

However, after the arrest of Amit, it was detected that he had opened an account in the IDBI bank on the name of Pradeep.

Amit used to register himself as Pradeep, a seller in the website www.ebay,in and when any customer wanted to purchase the product and paid him through internet banking, he did not sent the item even after crediting the amount in his account.

The STF SSP said investigation was also underway to find out how Amit opened an account with the bank on the name of Pradeep.

During the raid, police recovered one car, 7 ATM cards and 8 bank check books from the possession of Amit.
