Unani doctor claims to heal spondylitis
Mysore, July 30 (UNI) A traditional Unani practitioner is promising relief to spondylitis patients without any drugs or surgery.
Though physicians are not suggesting any cure for the condition, Dr Mehboob Khan from Mysore claims to give patients a painless life treating all kinds of the spondylitis -- ankylosing spondylitis, cervical spondylites and upper shoulder pains.
Talking to UNI at his clinic, Dr Khan says most of his patients are those who previously took either allopathic and ayurvedic treatment.
The Unani doctor observed experience and traditional knowledge handed down the generations helped him to identify and treat his patients.
''The system was developed and practised by our forefathers centuries ago and my father passed on the traditional knowledge to me.
''Now it is my turn to transfer this traditional knowledge to the next generation through my son so that the system will continue for years to come,'' he said adding his was the 20th generation offering the treatment.
Elaborating on the method of spotting the affected part and treatment, the 54-year-old doctor said the procedure involved repositioning the affected part with a mild press after locating it.
A belt is tied around the waist of the patient who is asked to lie down. A gentle press on the affected part cures the patient of his ailment, he claimed.
The patients are asked to bring an x-ray of the spinal cord and the portions where they experienced pain to identify the exact location of the pain.
After this, the patients are given oil to use on the affected part and few medicines for some days.
A patient experiences relief within 15 days of the treatment if it has been a recent case. However, it will take up to six months, if he has been suffering for a long time, depending on the gravity of the disease.
Though he started the treatment at the age of 19, his own healing therapy started in 1992 following his father's death, he said.
Dr Khan says about 100-150 patients come to his clinic at K R Nagar, about 50 km from the Garden City of Mysore.
The treatment begins at 0800 hrs and continues till the last patient was attended to.
