Tattoo: a new fashion craze among youngsters in Arunachal

Itanagar, Jul 30 (UNI) With an effort to preserve the ancient culture the youngsters in Arunachal Pradesh are promoting tattooing as a fashion.

Tattoos are permanent artistic patterns on the skin by pricking it and inserting a dye, The practice was a popular practice in the recent past among all the Arunachalee tribes,which is now in the verge of extintion. 24 year-old man Tadum Baja, when asked about the tatoos on his arm said it was "hep and cool" and all his freinds also have done it.

L Tashi, a class ten student, said tatoos attract people and one gets noticed by it.

It is a sign of westernization avered R Muklom, a girl from Changlang, and added they are trying to preserve their age-old culture.

Tribals in the state had been practicing it since time immemorial due to some traditional customs and demonstrate the acheivements attained by a person and the art was performed with religious rituals and ceremonies, however, with advent of modernization, the form of the art is fast disappearing.
