Supreme Court Bar ready to help KBA to sort out issues

Srinagar, July 30 (UNI) The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) is ready to extend any help to Kashmir Bar Association (KBA) to sort out issues concerning the legal fraternity, K C Kaushik, honorary secretary of the SCBA announced here today.

Commenting on the boycott by KBA members to diamond jubilee function of the Jammu and Kashmir high court yesterday, Mr Kaushik said the decision of the KBA to stay away from the celebrations may be correct in the local prospective, but largely it had raised many questions within the legal fraternity across the country and the judiciary as well.

Talking to reporters here today, Mr Kaushik, who was a part of SCBA delegation to attend the celebrations on the invitation from high court, said the diamond jubilee celebration was neither individual affair nor the judges affair exclusively. It was a celebration for the very ''justice delivery system'' which has stood the test of turbulent times in every state, more so in Jammu and Kashmir, he said.

He said he had written a letter to KBA president Mian Abdul Qayoum on July 28, wishing to reconsider the boycott and have a dialogue on the issue with him. But there was no reply from Mr Qayoum, he added.

The members of the KBA, including its president Mian Abdul Qayoum, did not participate in the celebration held at Sher-e- Kashmir International Convention hall on the bank of Dal lake.

President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Chief Justice of India, Y K Sabarwal, Governor Lt Gen (retd) S K Sinha, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, his cabinet colleagues, Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir high court Bashir Ahmad Khan and chief justice of different state high courts participated in the celebrations.
