Srikkanth, Boman Irani delight audience with wit

Chennai, July 30 (UNI) It was an evening laced with wit and humour. There was never a dull moment right through the nearly two hours of witty entertainment.

Former Indian skipper Krish Srikkanth, in his usual flamboyant style and film actor Boman Irani, exuding his inimitable humour had the audience breaking into peels of laughter to their anecdotes.

And the 'spirit' of the audience was naturally high as the function ''Highnights'' was sponsored by Beam Global Spirits and Wine India business, the market leaders in Scotch segment.

The event was a prelude to the annual Teacher's Achievement Awards where both the celebrties spoke about how to become ''Achievers''.

Setting the tone, Boman Irnai recalled Srikkanth's disastrous debut for India and his 'comedy of error'in getting run out in the second innings after falling for a 'duck' in the first.

Taking over from Boman, Srikkanth said India winning the World Cup in 1983 was the best achievement and described the then skipper Kapil Dev as the greatest achiever he had ever seen.

During the team meeting, ahead of the opening encounter with defending champion West Indies, Kapil said ''having beaten them once, why can't we beat them once again''.

''This was a very powerful statement that pepped us and gave the confidence...That was the typical Punjabi attitude of Kapil. He is a fighter, he never gives up'', Srikkanth said.

''We started as underdogs and the official odds were 1-1000 against India. The first match in the 1983 world cup was a turning point in Indian cricket...We beat West Indies and the event opened with an upset match'', he said, adding Kapil led by example.

''If you want to be an achiever, have faith in yourself. You have to believe in yourself. That's what Kapil taught us. He never gives up''.
