Selection of pilgrims for this year Haj set in motion in J

Srinagar, July 30 (UNI) With the draw of lots on August one Jammu and Kashmir government will set in motion the selection of pilgrims from different tehsils for the Haj this year, official spokesman said.

He said the pilgrims will be selected through the draw of lots for undertaking the pilgrimage to the holy place of Mecca and Medina during the Haj in November.

The draw of lots of Haj pilgrims from Pulwama tehsil will be held on August 1; for Pampore on August 2; Awantipora on August 3; Tral on August 4 and Shopian on August 5, 2006, he said.

Similarly, the draw of lots of the Haj pilgrims for Kupwara district would be held on August 1, at the office complex of District Development Commissioner.

He said pilgrims will be selected in other districts of the state also through the draw of lots.

Meanwhile, a team of state Haj committee is in Saudi Arabia to book the accommodation for the pilgrims for the holy pilgrimage, official sources said.

About one lakh pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir undertake the pilgrimage through government and other private agencies every year.
