Renowned sports writer K N Prabhu passes away
New Delhi, July 30 (UNI) Renowned cricket writer and former 'Times of India' sports editor K N Prabhu, died in Mumbai today.
Prabhu, 83, was unwell for quite sometime and was hospitalised earlier this month. He is survived by a son and a daughter.
One of the pioneers in the field of sports journalism, in India, he started his career with the Indian Chronicle.
Prabhu joined the Times of India in 1948. He took over as the sports editor of the daily in 1959 and served in the same capacity till 1983.
He travelled with Indian team on almost all of its foreign tours during the '60s and '70s and carved a niche for himself with his inimitable style of reporting.
A witness to many of the glorious moments of Indian cricket, the scribe covered India's Test series victories in West Indies and England in 1971 and later the World Cup triumph in 1983.
Acknowledging his service to the game, the Indian board conferred the prestigious CK Nayadu Award to Prabhu.
