Rains in Western Mah subside; reports of two death
Mumbai, July 30 (UNI) Two people died and the army evacuated thousands of families from Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur and Solapur as heavy rains lashed Western and South Maharashtra in the past few days resulting in a flood like situation in Western Maharashtra.
Relief and Rehabilitation Secretary K S Vatsa who is monitoring the situation round the clock at Mantralaya, the State Secretariat told UNI that the rains have subsided and water levels were also receding since morning.
However, due to the flood alert the army has evacuated thousands of families from Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur and Solapur.
The discharge of water from dams has also decreased. About one lakh cusecs of water was discharged from Koyna dam and 1.10 lakh cusecs from Ujni dam.
One woman was reported dead in a wall collapse in Satara district while another woman was washed away in rain water in Sangli district, he informed.
About 2,930 families from low lying areas in Sangli district were evacuated by the army, 300 families from Kolhapur, 700 families from Solapur and 900 families from Satara were also moved to safer places, he added.
In Nashik division, very heavy rainfall was reported in Surgana, Trimbakeshwar, Igatpuri and Peth. This morning, there were five to six incidences of wall collapse. But, no casaulty was reported.
Rains in Raigad have receded, but it is raining in Nashik, sources added.
Similarly, in Raigad district, there was a landslide on Poladpur- Mahableshwar road. However, No casaulties were reported.
In the last 24 hours, Mumbai city has recorded 18.4 mm of rainfall, Mumbai suburbs 12.4 mm of rainfall, Thane 49.7 mm, Ratnagiri 63.1 mm, Raigad 72.3 mm, Sindhudurg 30 mm, Nashik 47.8 mm, Dhule 29.8 mm, Nandurbar 103.2 mm, Jalgaon 12.4 mm and Ahmednagar 5.6 mm.
Almost the entire state received heavy rains except Vidarbha and Marathwada in the last 24 hours.
