Kollywood goes to polls

Chennai, July 30 (UNI) It was election time at 'Nadigar Sangam' (South Indian Film Artistes Association) as Kollywood actors today cast their ballots to elect their new office bearers for a two-year term.

The elections were held for the posts of general secretary, treasurer, two secretaries and committee members.

Well known actor Sarath Kumar had already been elected unopposed as President.

Popular stars, including former Nadigar Sangam President, Vijayakanth, Sarath Kumar, Vikram, Nepolean, Radharavi, Srikanth, Revathy, Parthiban, AIADMK MLA and actor S Ve Shekher cast their votes.

The counting would be held later in the evening and the results were expected to be announced tonight.

Speaking to newspersons after casting his vote, Mr Vijayakanth, who had quit the post of President after he floated his party DMDK and became an MLA, said he was against mixing politics with films.

''People should stand united irrespective of the party they belong and work for the welfare of the industry'', he added.

He expressed confidence that Mr Sarath Kumar would discharge his duties well, as he had the previous experience of serving the association as the general secretary.
