Govt to renovote historical sites around Kurukshetra
Kaithal, Jul 30 (UNI) The Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) will spend Rs 10 crore on the development and preservation of historical sites in the Kaithal area, Haryana Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said here today.
He said that the decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Governor Dr A R Kidwai in Chandigarh recently.
Elaborating further, Mr Surjewala said that as Kaithal fell under ''Kurukshetra Bhoomi'', the KDB and Haryana government wanted to upkeep and renovate the monuments and places with historical value.
He said that special measures were underway to renovate the old Bidhikyar tank lying in the middle of Kaithal town and it would be developed as a place of tourist attraction and picnic spot. The tank would be filled with fresh canal water. Similarly the tomb of Razia Begum lying in a dilapidated condition on the outskirts of the city too would renovated so that it dose not lose its historical relevance.
The Minister said besides this, other historical and religious places situated within 46 km area around Kurukshetra like Kaithal, Kalayat, Pundri, Pehowa also called Kurukshetra Bhoomi, would be given special attention under the schemes formulated by the KDB.
Meanwhile, Governor A R Kidwai appointed six members of the Kurkshetra Development Board with immediate effect.
The members included Mr Braham Sawroop Brahamchari, Sri Jai Ram Ashram, Kurukshetra, Mr D P Upadhayaya, chairman, Gulzari Lal Nanda Foundation,Kurukshetra, Mr Jai Narain Sharma, Advocate, president, Brahaman Tirthodhar Sabha, Kurukshetra, Dr Himmat Singh Sinha, Mr Parkash Mishra and Parikshit Madaan of Kurukshetra.
