Efforts on to bring bodies from Bahrain: Vayalar Ravi
Chennai, July 30 (UNI) Efforts are on to bring the bodies of 16 Indians killed in a fire mishap at a labour camp in Bahrain's capital, Manama, early today, according to Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Ravi said he had already asked the Indian embassy in Bahrain to take all efforts for airlifting the bodies of the deceased to their native place, Tamil Nadu.
He said the bodies would reach here either tomorrow or the day after.
According to the reports available, the labour camp belonged to the Royal Tower Construction Company. There were about 300 construction workers, most of them Indians, in the complex where the mishap occurred.
The main reason for the high casualties was heavy smoke which engulfed the place, suffocating the occupants.
Other seven persons, who were injured in the mishap, were admitted to Falmania Hospital in Manama.
Mr Ravi said the Ministry was in constant touch with the Indian Embassy in Bahrain.
To a question, he said efforts would be made to get adequate compensation from the company for the kin of the deceased and the injured.
