Children run to raise awareness about diarrheal death
Jaipur, July 30 (UNI) Around 600 school-children took part in a run here to raise awareness about diarrheal deaths.
Named Udaan, the run took place in 32 other cities in states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. And over five lakh Indians participated in the run.
Children of about 20 schools were part of the run which began from the city's major landmark Albert Hall around 0830 hrs in the morning.
A large number of mothers, doctors, chemists, National Cadet Corps, NGOs, defence and police officials also joined to support the cause.
The run was flagged off by Dr Dilip Kimatkar, Chief Medical and Health Officer and Ms Satya Priya Singh, SP, Traffic.
Udaan was organised by US Agency for International Development (USAID) to mark the National ORS (Oral Rehydration Salts) Day yesterday to promote the correct use of ORS.
Over 500,000 children die in India each year due to dehydration caused by diarrhea and it is also a major cause of malnutrition in children.
