Advanced Centre for Genomics of Type-2 diabetes inaugurated
Chennai, July 30 (UNI) The Advanced Centre for Genomics of Type-2 diabetes, jointly set by the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) and the Indian Council of Medical Research was inaugurated here today.
Launching the new facility, ICMR Director General Dr N K Ganguly said the MDRF-ICMR Centre was aimed at imparting training to scientists in advanced research in genomics pertaining to diabetes.
He said study of genetics was important as it would help invention of drugs capable of tackling Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
Stating that life style, stress factor and bad food habits contribute to diseases, he said, ''nutrition management is highly important and essential for the mother and the child.'' He said a multi-pronged approach was needed to tackle NCDs.
State Chief Secretary L K Tripathy said Telemedicine facilities, which would help in carrying various health packages to the door steps of the villagers, could be helpful in reducing the incidence of the NCD's.
