Zero pendency of cases in J
Srinagar, July 29 (UNI) Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bashir Ahmad Khan today said all the five-year-old and ten-year-old cases pending in the district courts would be disposed of by the year end.
''We want to start with zero pendency in 2008,'' Justice Khan said, while addressing the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention hall, on the bank of Dal Lake today.
He said the judicial system here had initiated several constructive steps and were doing the best to revamp the infrastructure to ensure speedy disposal of cases and assure justice to all.
''We have already succeeded in reducing the arrears by 20 per cent in the last year and we are targeting 2008 as the beginning of zero pendency'', he said.
''We have also embarked on novel and innovative methods of carrying justice to the doorsteps of our people and during the recent earthquake in north Kashmir, we have successfully resolved disputes involving Rs 25 crore,'' he said.
He said celebration of diamond jubilee of the High Court was not only an occasion for us to recall our past accomplishments, but it was also time for some soul searching and introspection.
