Veteran sports scribe Thyagarajan honoured

Chennai, July 29 (UNI) S Thyagarajan, veteran sports journalist and Associate Editor of The Hindu, was today conferred the ''M Vijayachandran memorial sports award'' in recognition of his Lifetime achievements in the field of sports journalism.

The award, instituted by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists, Tamil Nadu unit, carries a cash prize of Rs 15,000, and a citation.

The award was presented to Mr Thyagarajan by Kerala Forest and Housing Minister Binoy Viswam.

Star footballer and former Indian skipper I M vijayan presented the citation.

Eminent personalities, including former Indian athlete Shiny Wilson, former All star Basketball player Jayashankar Menon, former DGP and Tamil Nadu Athletics Association President Walter Davaram, Mathrubhumi Deputy editor and sports journalist V Rajagopal, and Hindustan group of Institutions Managing Director Ashok Varghese recalled the contributions made by Mr Thyagarajan in his career spanning more than four decades.

KUWJ General Secretary K A Johny welcomed the gathering and Treasurer R K Radhakrishnan proposed the vote of thanks.
