Teachers will be appointed for 1500 vacant posts: Ponmudi

Coimbatore, July 29 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Minister for Higher Education K Ponmudi today said 1500 teachers would be appointed in various aided colleges and Government colleges in the state during the current academic year.

Talking to reporters here, he said over 1700 posts were lying vacant in the aided and government colleges and steps were underway to fill the posts.

After visiting the Bharathiyar University campus, the minister said the proposed Technology University in Coimbatore would initially function from the Government College of Technology here and later shifted to the Bharathiyar university campus.

Mr Ponmudi, who holds additional charge of Public Works Department, expressed confidence that the soaring sand prices in the state would come down within a week.

He said orders were issued to provide approach road and lighting facilities to carry out sand quarrying round-the-clock.
