Sunni Waqf Board reiterates Taj Mahal is waqf property
Agra, July 29 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board chairman Hafiz Usman has expressed the hope that the Taj Mahal would be declared a waqf property by the Supreme Court.
''Taj is the property of the Waqf Board and we are confident, that the decision will be delivered in our favour,'' Mr Usman added.
He was also peeved at the ''shoddy'' upkeep of the monument of love. ''The roof of the Taj is leaking,'' he claimed.
He also underlined that the Board had no objection to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) maintaining the monument.
''We only want that the income generated at the Taj is used for emancipation of poor Muslims. This fact is also mentioned in the will of Emperor Shahjahan,'' he said.
The contention of the Board that the Taj Mahal is Waqf Board property is pending before the Apex court.
