Staff provided for speedy implementation of NREGA Act

New Delhi, July 29 (UNI) To ensure speedy and effective implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), the Rural Development Ministry has asked states to make adequate staff available at the Panchayat and district levels.

At the same time the Ministry is going all out to raise public awareness of the scheme by adopting a multi-pronged approach.

State governments have been instructed to make administrative and technical staff available from time to time at the Panchayat and district levels -- the implementing agencies -- for effective implementation of the Act. Funds have been released for organising training programmes for the staff working with the implementing agencies, official sources said.

National Level Monitors (NLM) have been appointed by the Central Government for making field visits of the various areas to oversee the progress of the Act and submit their report.

Simultaneously, all states have been asked to give wide publicity to the Act by organising special meetings of the Gram Sabhas on January 26 and February 2 to raise awareness. Handbills, posters, wall writings were suggested in the campaign as also television and newspaper advertisements, the sources added.
