SP demands restoratation of Haridwar into UP

Haridwar, July 29: The Samajwadi Party will organise a demonstration outside Parliament on August 1st to demand the restoration of the Haridwar district to Uttar Pradesh.

Ever since the creation of Uttaranchal, the party has been demanding that Haridwar, whch falls in the plains, should be restored to the parent state, as the district has no ethnic, cultural, geographical or linguistic affinity with the hill areas that comprise Uttaranchal.

''More than 5,000 party activists, mostly from Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttaranchal and districts of western UP, including Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar, would hold a demonstration before the Parliament on August 1,'' party state unit president of the party and former MLA Ambrish Kumar told UNI.

Alleging that the Uttaranchal government was ''grossly discriminating against the people of the plains, who were being exploited in all matters,'' he said, adding that while the party activists would stage a demonstration outside the Parliament, the party MPs would raise the issue in the Parliament the same day.
