Rajkot bandh observed to condemn youth's murder

Rajkot, July 29 (UNI) The people here today observed a ''Rajkot bandh'' to mourn and condemn the abduction and killing of a youth, Piyush Thakkar.

The funeral procession of Piyush was taken out this morning in which a large number of people participated.

The bandh was peaceful and no untoward incidents were reported, police control room sources said.

The bandh call was given by the Lohana community to condemn the ''failure of the police'' in tracing Piyush who was abducted on July 14.

The police had yesterday recovered the remains of Piyush near Chotila after an accused confessed to killing Piyush and burning the body on July 16.

On hearing about the death of Piyush, angry relatives and some members of the Lohana community had rushed to the police station and damaged government property.

The people of Wankaner in Rajkot district and Porbandar city also observed bandh today, reports reaching here said.
