Rains lash Saurashtra, heavy rains forecast in South Gujarat
Rajkot/Surat, July 29 (UNI) Barring Jamnagar and Kutchh districts, moderate to heavy rains continued to lash most parts of the Saurashtra region on the second day today.
Sankroli dam in Surendranagar district was filled to capacity while water levels in five other dams in Rajkot, Surendranagar and Jamnagar districts have shown considerable increase following heavy rains in the catchment areas, flood control room sources said.
Owing to heavy rains in Una, residents of Arjun Complex near Jalaramnagar area were trapped as water entered in the cellar and up to the first floor. Around 65 persons were shifted to safer places, a report from Junagadh said. Una, in Junagadh district, recorded 325 mm rainfall during the last 24 hrs.
Bhavnagar, Porbandar, Amreli and Rajkot districts received ranfall ranging from 15 mm to 90 mm, reports reaching here said.
Rajkot city recorded 8 mm rains till 1430 hrs, taking the season's total to 308 mm, weather office sources said.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has forecast heavy rains in all the four districts of South Gujarat that include Surat, Navsari, Valsad and Dang.
Water level in the Ukkai Dam has risen to 322.93 feet which is around 22 feet below the danger level. Likewise, water level in the Kakarapad Dam has risen to 162.70 feet, around 13 feet below the danger level.
The Tapi river was flowing around six metres below the danger level, flood control room sources at Surat informed.
