Rains lash Central Gujarat districts, teenager electrocuted
Anand, July 29 (UNI) In a rain-related incident, a teenaged boy was electrocuted in his hostel's dining room in Modasa village in Vidyanagar last night.
The student died on the spot.
As the hostel had got flooded due to rain water, his body was retrieved more than two hours after his death. The Electricity Board officials snapped the power lines to the hostel to prevent further casualties.
Standing crops in Naman village were affected after a canal broke and flooded the area. Water-logging in major parts of Anand town, including the bus stand, and other areas was also reported, causing a lot of inconvenience to people.
Buses plying to villages have been cancelled as water-logging and uprooted trees have hampered movement. In total, the district recieved 866 mm rains overnight.
The adjoining Kheda district too was lashed by heavy rains last evening. The Shedi rivulet in Dakor was flowing close to the red mark, met department said. Nadiad town too was facing water-logging in most of its parts. The district had 1,693 mm rains since last night.
