OPPI to formulate action plan to boost plastics processing industry

Mumbai, July 29 (UNI) The Organisation of Plastics Processors of India (OPPI) has come up with its report on the ''Competitiveness of Indian Plastics Processing Industry''.

The OPPI, now, plans to come up with an action plan to boost the growth of the industry.

Addressing the 22nd annual get-together of the organisation here last evening, OPPI president Ashok Goel said the objective behind conducting the study was to document the present status of the industry and benchmarking the industry vis-a-vis plastics processing industry of developed countries.

''After getting feedback from our members, we will formulate an action plan,'' he said. The study was commissioned by the OPPI on behalf of Plastindia Foundation to ICRA Management Consulting Services almost a year ago.

Mr Goel said the volatile and spiralling oil prices were having serious implications on the industry. He urged plastics processors to ''explore, discover and invent ways to limit the effect of the volatile oil prices''.

Prof Nirmalya Kumar of the London Business School gave a presentation on the ''Zara case on innovation'' on the occasion.

Headquartered in France, ''Zara'' is a chain of fashionable clothings. Describing ''Zara'' as an ideal example of entrepreneurship, Prof Kumar said it was an organisation that dared to break age-old conventions and norms. Every week ''Zara'' opens two boutiques somewhere in the world, he informed.
