One more arrested in serial train bomb blast case

Mumbai, July 29 (UNI) Police have arrested one more person in connection with the July 11 serial blasts in the metropolis that had claimed 200 lives and left more than 700 injured.

Ashtauddin Siddique (32) was arrested from Naya Nagar at Mira Road in neighbouring Thane district yesterday. The total number of arrests in the serial blasts case has now risen to nine.

Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) sources said that Siddique had initially been detained by the Thane crime branch sleuths and, after thorough interrogation, was handed over to the ATS yesterday.

Siddique was today produced before the metropolitan magistrate A M Garde at the Mazgaon court and was remanded in police custody till August 12.

ATS sources said Siddique was an active member of the banned Students' Islamic Movement of India and had visited Pakistan to receive training in the manufacture of weapons and bombs.

The other eight persons who had been arrested earlier are Mohammed Kalam Ansari, Mohammed Khalil Sheikh, Mumtaj Ahmed Chaudhary, Faizal Sheikh, Muzzumil Sheikh, Zamir Ahmed Latif, Sohail Mohammed Sheikh and Dr Tanvir Ahmed Ansari.

All of them have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Indian Explosives Act -- 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 147 (rioting), and 149 (unlawful assembly).
