New cricket stadium opened for first class matches

Mysore, July 29 (UNI) The Gangothri Glades Cricket Stadium of Mysore University developed by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) with 15,000 seating capacity along with all facilities was opened for the first class matches here today.

The new stadium was declared opened by Mysore University Vice-Chancellor J Shashidhara Prasad in a function here today.

The KSCA to promote cricket in mofussil centres has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mysore University for a period of 20 years for maintaining and development of the infrastructure facilities in the new stadium.

The new stadium has dressing rooms for players along with accomodation for two teams, rest rooms and umpire rooms and other facilities.

Speaking on the occasion former test player and KSCA secretary Brijesh Patel said that the KSCA has been encouraging the upcoming cricket players and it had already nine cricket academy centres in the state.

It wanted to extend to other districts in the state to help the mofussil players to show their talents, he said.

He said that during the next month MRF All India Invitation cricket tournament would also be played in the new stadium here.

It plans to conduct Ranji trophy matches in the coming days. he said.
