'Nepal to persuade Maoists to join mainstream'
New Delhi, July 29: The Girija Prasad Koirala government is presently engaged in a dialogue with the Maoists on future political set up of the country so as to usher in an era of peace and development, Nepal Deputy Prime Minister Amik Sherchan said here today.
''Dialouge is continuing between Mr Koirala and Prachanda to take the people's struggle to its logical conclusion.'' Mr Sherchan told UNI after meeting CPI(M) leaders Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechuri at the party headquarter.
Discussions were on to make the Maoists surrender their arms and join the political mainstream.
Both the governments and the Maoists were in constant touch with each other, he said.
The Nepal Deputy PM said the immediate task before them is to set up a ''constituent assemby and finally set up an interim government.'' Meanwhile, the two-day Polit Bureau meeting of the CPI(M) began here today with discussions on the situation in West Asia and the US.
