MPCC exceutive committee meet discusses farmers' suicide issue
Mumbai, July 29 (UNI) The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee's executive committee today expressed concern over suicides by farmers in Vidarbha.
The executive committee met here and the meeting was attended by MPCC president Prabha Rau, AICC observer and general secretary Margret Alva, Cooperation Minister Patangrao Kadam, and others. The meet also discussed the issues of law and order and appointment of chairpersons to various State boards and corporations.
MPCC sources said the party had appointed district-level committees in Vidarbha to conduct surveys and determine as to why farmers were committing suicides. The reports would be submitted to the Prime Minister.
The committee discussed the law and order situation in the State in the backdrop of the 7/11 serial bomb blasts.
Ms Alva expressed concern over the delay in the appointment of chairpersons to various boards and corporations. The issue of the ensuing local bodies elections was also discussed at the meeting.
