MAIT welcomes Centre's move of no job reservation in pvt sector

Bangalore, July 29 (UNI) Manufacturers Association of Information Technology Chairman Sanjay Handu has welcomed the Centre's move of not bringing in a legislation to implement reservation of jobs in the private sector.

''The Centre's move, according to reports appearing in a section of the Press, is a welcome one. Representatives of IT majors, who met the Prime Minister recently, have also assured to encourage appointment of downtrodden sections. This understanding is a great idea,'' he added.

Talking to UNI yesterday, Mr Handu said opportunities have been provided to the downtrodden, but it was more important to give more attention to providing proper education right from the primary level so that they could be brought into the mainstream to face the competitive world.

Calling for a holistic approach into the issue, he said education should be a stepping stone for career opportunities. ''If we want to provide an opportunity, we should also help them to get qualified to grab the opportunity...However, both should be done simultaneously so that the deprived classes can become economically strong and through education, they can be made qualified enough to attract big industries,'' he added.

To a question, Mr Handu said the concentration of IT industry in certain pockets or developed cities was predominantly driven by trained manpower. Infrastructure also played an important role for setting up the IT industry and with developments taking place both in manpower and infrastructure, there would be a spread of IT industries in all parts of the country in the coming days, he added.

He said IT manufacturing had tremendous potential and it was good to see that big industries in other countries were starting their units in India. This showed that the manufacturing sector of the IT industry was heading towards s huge expansion.
