Kenya's ex-president Moi survives car crash
NAIROBI, July 29 (Reuters) Kenya's former President Daniel arap Moi was taken to hospital today after his car collided with a truck -- but he escaped serious injury.
''He is fine now,'' government spokesman Alfred Mutua said on the crash which occurred as Moi, 81, was travelling to Nairobi from the western town of Nakuru.
Kenyan police said a pickup truck lost control and slid into Moi's chauffeur-driven car on the highway mid-afternoon. Moi and his passengers were shaken but not badly hurt.
''There is no cause for alarm. They have examined him at Nairobi hospital. He's OK and the passengers weren't hurt either,'' police spokesman Gideon Kibunjah said.
Moi, who ruled the east African nation for 24 years until 2002, keeps up a busy schedule in Kenya, criss-crossing the nation on political and fund-raising activities.
