Jadavpur Univeristy's student body found

Purulia, Jul 29: Body of a Jadavpur University student, Suvankar Saha, who came here for trekking in the hilly forest along with four other students, was found on the bank of a river, district Superintendent of police Asok Kumar Prasad said.

Two other students, both girls- Arundhati Saha and Swati Roy, were missing since yesterday, he added.

Two others- Bappaditya Chatterjee and Koushik Saha, who had been rescued last night-detained by the police for interrogation.

Mr Prasad said the body of Suvankar (21) was found at the bank of Shuva river in Bagmundi with mark of injuries on the neck.

Initially rumours were that some members of the team slipped down to the river while crossing a stream. Another version was they fell after a rope on which they were crossing snapped.

But mystery intensified after missing of the two girls from the team. Question was rasied why the two girls went apart from the main team, these were the questions raised druing the interrogatin, local witnesses said. Another question was raised why they were here while trekking in monsoon was hazardous in this hilly terrains of West Bengal.

The students boarded the train from Howrah on Wednesday and starterd trekking from Thursday in the Bagmundi hills.

Mr prasad said many teams were fanned out to trace the missing girls.

He said initially all thought that Moaists were behind this accident/incident but now Bappaditya and Koushik claimed they fell in to the river.
