Jadavpur student's body found, two girl students missing

Purulia, July 29 (UNI) The body of a Jadavpur University student, Suvankar Saha, who came here for trekking in the hilly forest along with four other students, was found on the bank of a river, district Superintendent of police Asok Kumar Prasad said.

Two other students, both girls- Arundhati Saha and Swati Roy, were missing since yesterday, he added.

Two others- Bappaditya Chatterjee and Koushik Saha, who had been rescued last night were detained by the police for interrogation.

Mr Prasad said the body of Suvankar (21) was found at the bank of Shuva river in Bagmundi with injury marks on the neck.

Initially rumours were that some members of the team slipped down to the river while crossing a stream. Another version was they fell after a rope on which they were crossing snapped.

The students boarded the train from Howrah on Wednesday and starterd trekking from Thursday in the Bagmundi hills.

Mr Prasad said many teams were fanned out to trace the missing girls.

He said initially all thought that Moaists were behind this accident/incident but now Bappaditya and Koushik claimed they fell in to the river.
